Support for a Pilot Programme for Smoking Prevention, Healthy Eating, and the Promotion of Regular Physical Activity at the Volos Special Youth Detention Centre

Inmates face increased health risks due to their living conditions. A pilot programme implemented at the Volos Special Youth Detention Centre by the Hellenic Liver Patient Association ‘Prometheus’, in collaboration with the Hellenic Thoracic Society and supported by the Bodossaki Foundation, focuses on raising awareness among young adult inmates (aged 18–25) about the negative effects of smoking. It also promotes healthy eating, regular physical activity, and policy reforms for improving inmates’ health.

The programme includes educational and awareness activities for both inmates and detention centre staff. A policy document will also be prepared, with guidelines and specific proposals for integrating health-promoting changes.
