The grant-making activities of the Bodossaki Foundation promote its vision of a society of equal opportunities and prospects for all, and reflect the Foundation’s four strategic pillars:
- Promoting education
- Improving healthcare
- Empowering Civil Society
- Protecting the environment
Promoting education
With its grants and initiatives, the Foundation is consistently supporting the education sector and working to ensure equal opportunities for young students and scientists and to promote excellence and a scientific ethos as key values in our society.
Improving healthcare
The Foundation supports projects and initiatives aimed at ensuring equal access to healthcare, upgrading the health services offered by public hospitals and supporting research in the area of health.
The Foundation’s grants have contributed to the building of complete hospitals and clinics and provided medical equipment for most of the country’s public hospitals.
Empowering Civil Society
The Foundation’s goal is to contribute to the development of a strong and independent Civil Society and help to create the appropriate institutional framework within which it can function.
An active, healthy and dynamic Civil Society can complement the state by providing services in critical areas such as health and social welfare, assisting with emergencies, and contributing to overall improvement in the daily lives of citizens, the safeguarding of human rights and the consolidation of democratic values.
In 2017, the Bodossaki Foundation established Social Dynamo, with the aim of offering comprehensive support to those working on behalf of Greek Civil Society. This is a unique, one-of-a-kind collaborative hub for Civil Society capacity building, with a focus on learning, professional support and networking.
The particular Civil Society capacity building activities supported by the Foundation are as follows:
From 2013 to 2017, the Bodossaki Foundation acted as Fund Operator of the EEA Grants’ Greek NGO Funding Programme ‘We are all Citizens’. With a budget of 7.3 million euros, the programme’s funding of Civil Society actors has helped to realise 76 projects throughout Greece, directly benefiting more than 245,000 citizens. Currently, the Bodossaki Foundation is Fund Operator, jointly with SolidarityNow, of the €15m Active Citizens Fund programme, sponsored by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway as part of the European Economic Area (EEA) Financial Mechanism for the period 2014-2021. The programme seeks to develop the resilience of Civil Society and ensure its long-term sustainability.
Protecting the environment
The Bodossaki Foundation was one of the first public benefit organisations in Greece to turn its attention to environmental protection.
Funding research on environmental issues, assisting in the implementation of large-scale environmental protection programmes and supporting environmental education programmes are some of the ways in which the Foundation contributes to environmental protection and sustainable development.
