The Bodossaki Foundation is working with the Civitates network to support independent journalism in Greece.

The Bodossaki Foundation is pleased to announce its participation as a member and co-funder of the Civitates network, an initiative of the Network of European Foundations (NEF), which supports independent journalism and Civil Society organizations across Europe, with the aim of safeguarding democracy.

Civitates was established in 2018 in response to growing societal pressures stemming from political polarisation, the shrinking of Civil Society, and the spread of disinformation. To date, it has supported over 50 organizations in 18 European countries, with total funding exceeding €13 million.

Greece has been designated as one of the network’s priority countries for the next two years, and it will be supporting projects focused on strengthening independent journalism within the country.

As the first Greek foundation to participate in this initiative, the Bodossaki Foundation seeks to enhance the social impact of the projects to be implemented, with a focus on ensuring the uninterrupted and independent functioning of the media as key institutions that hold state power accountable and promote democratic values. We are proud that, through our involvement in the Civitates network, we can support the principle of independent journalism in our country, while expanding collaborations with leading foundations across Europe to develop innovative approaches to strengthening democracy.

The following foundations from more than 10 European countries are participating in the Civitates network: King Baudouin Foundation, Adessium Foundation, OAK Foundation, Fritt Ord, Charles Stuart Mott Foundation, Rudolf Augstein Stiftung, Fundacja (Im. Stefana) Batorego, European Cultural Foundation, Stiftung Mercator Schweiz, Vereniging Veronica, Fondation de France, Erste Stiftung, Isocrates Foundation, Sigrid Rausing Trust, Porticus, Open Society Foundations, Robert Bosch Stiftung, and Foundation Limelight.
