In 1979, immediately after Mr Bodossakis’ death, the Foundation decided to carry out a large public infrastructure project in his memory. In consultation with the Government it was decided to create a modern general hospital in Western Macedonia, to be named after its late benefactor.
Construction work began in 1982 and the Foundation handed the project over to the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 1989, after the hospital building and the outpatient clinics had been completed. The ‘Bodossakeio’ Hospital of Ptolemaida was finally inaugurated officially in 1992. At current prices the total expenses covered by the Foundation for this project amounted to €27,400,000.
