A safe home for 321 unaccompanied minors

The Bodossaki Foundation announces the first results of the thematic fund on unaccompanied refugee children.

After six months of campaigning and with the invaluable support of donors in Greece and around the world, 2 new shelters have been created, 30 foster families are being supported, and the operation of six already existing units is being sustained. So we can now offer shelter, support, protection and social integration services to 321 children. Of those, 77 children are being taken out of the street and detention centers.

The first shelter is located in the centre of Athens and is welcoming unaccompanied boys aged between 12 – 15 years old, mainly from Syria and Afganistan. The shelter is operated by NGO ‘Medical Intervention’.

The second shelter will soon be open thanks to the contribution of the construction company ‘AKTOR’ which has undertaken all renovation works. The shelter will be operated by NGO ‘Praksis’ and will offer a safe home to 30 unaccompanied minors.
With more than 1,500 unaccompanied refugee children currently without a safe home, the need to protect them is more urgent than ever.
